Brand awareness campaign cost in Dubai and what it can prove

By Artur Gall·Oct 29, 2026·14 min read

A brand awareness campaign in Dubai starts to make sense at around AED 5,000 a month on a single digital platform, sits at AED 15,000 to 50,000 for something a brand manager can defend in a quarterly review, and crosses AED 100,000 to 500,000 a month once outdoor joins the mix. The harder question is what the money proves. Reach and frequency you get at any budget. A measured shift in how many people recognise your brand costs another AED 1,000 to 25,000 on top, and the cheap end of that range cannot detect the result everyone wants. Revenue attribution in dirhams you will not get, at any price.

I'm Artur Gall, I run SkyLight Marketing out of Dubai, and I spend a fair part of every month explaining the second half of that paragraph to clients who already agreed to the first half. If you are still deciding whether to put money into brand at all, we argue that case separately in performance versus brand marketing for UAE brands; this piece assumes the decision is made and deals with the invoice and the measurement plan.

What a brand awareness campaign costs in Dubai, channel by channel

Rates below are market bands from public rate cards, platform auction data and the accounts we buy in during 2026, planning numbers rather than quotes. The top of each band is where you land during Ramadan, the Dubai Shopping Festival window and the big October trade season, when every advertiser in the country bids at once.

Channel CPM band (AED) Practical monthly minimum (AED) What the minimum buys
Meta, Facebook placements 10-25 3,000-5,000 (combined with Instagram) A narrow audience at usable frequency
Meta, Instagram placements 15-40 3,000-5,000 (combined with Facebook) Half the impressions of Facebook for the same money
YouTube 12-25 8,000-15,000 Video completion data and a brand lift option
TikTok 8-20 5,000-10,000 Cheap reach skewed young
Programmatic display 3-8 5,000-10,000 Volume, with the lowest attention per impression
Influencer campaign priced per deal 10,000-100,000 per campaign Borrowed audience and content you can reuse
Outdoor, single site priced per site 30,000-350,000 per month Presence, and no verifiable reach

Instagram costs roughly 50 per cent more per thousand than Facebook in UAE auctions, and has for as long as I have been buying in this market. Part of it is audience, part of it is supply: more advertisers want Reels and Stories inventory than Facebook feed, so the auction clears higher. If you want the full picture by objective and placement, our paid social benchmarks for Dubai carries the CPM, CPC and CPL tables we update from live accounts.

Programmatic display is the cheapest line in the table and the one I argue about most: AED 3 to 8 per thousand buys impressions a human may never have looked at. Viewability and placement quality decide whether that line is media or landfill, which is why we treat it as a reinforcement channel, not a primary one. The mechanics of buying it properly sit in our guide to display and programmatic advertising in the UAE.

Why the platform minimums exist: reach times frequency

The minimums in that table are not platform rules. They come out of arithmetic that any brand manager can run in a minute.

Awareness needs a person to see the brand three to five times before the memory sticks well enough to show up in a survey or a search box. Call the target 100,000 people in the UAE at a frequency of four. That is 400,000 impressions. At AED 20 CPM you pay AED 8,000. At Instagram's top band of AED 35, the same plan costs AED 14,000. Weighted towards Facebook feed at AED 12, it drops to AED 4,800.

Now run it backwards. AED 4,000 at AED 25 CPM buys 160,000 impressions. Spread across 100,000 people that is a frequency of 1.6, below the floor where anything registers. A plan like that fails on audience size, not on budget.

The lever is audience size. Shrink the target to 40,000 people and AED 4,000 at AED 25 CPM delivers frequency four, and the campaign becomes legible. Meta's audience estimator will cheerfully show you nine or ten million reachable accounts in the UAE, a figure that includes duplicates, lapsed accounts and visitors. Chasing it is how AED 5,000 turns into confetti.

Before you approve a budget, ask whoever is planning it for the reach and frequency forecast, in people, at the audience definition they intend to buy. If they answer in impressions only, the plan has not been built.

Billboards in Dubai: the arithmetic nobody shows you

Outdoor in Dubai runs from about AED 30,000 a month for a secondary site to AED 350,000 and beyond for the premium Sheikh Zayed Road positions. Production, printing and permits sit on top of the rental in most quotes.

Take a mid-band site at AED 80,000 a month. The same AED 80,000 on Instagram at AED 25 CPM buys 3.2 million impressions, with a delivery report showing reach, frequency, placement and creative breakdown. For the billboard you get the operator's audience estimate from traffic counts, and a photograph of your artwork in position. There is no way to deduplicate the audience, cap frequency, or tell a resident who passes it twice a day from a tourist who passed once.

That comparison makes outdoor look indefensible, and that conclusion is wrong. Outdoor reaches people you cannot target, which matters for a brand selling to the whole market rather than a segment, and it signals scale to the few hundred people who decide your commercial future: retail buyers, mall leasing teams, distributors, investors. For a brand negotiating shelf space, being visible on Sheikh Zayed Road is a commercial argument rather than a media buy, and I have seen it close deals the consumer reach never would. That is a reason to buy outdoor, not a reason to measure it: if outdoor is in the plan, the honest framing is that digital carries the measurement and outdoor carries the presence, measured through the one signal the flight actually moves, branded search volume during and immediately after, against the weeks either side.

Influencer campaigns: AED 10,000 to 100,000, and what gets measured

Influencer budgets in the UAE run from around AED 10,000 for a small local collaboration to AED 100,000 and up for a multi-creator campaign with usage rights. The spread inside that range has less to do with follower counts than with exclusivity windows, whitelisting rights and how long you can run the content as paid media afterwards.

Measurement here gets misread constantly. Promo codes and tracked links measure response, a performance metric wearing an awareness costume: a creator campaign generating 40 code redemptions has told you about 40 people, not the 300,000 who watched and did nothing. If awareness is the goal, buy the usage rights, run the best-performing creator asset as paid social against a defined audience, and measure it with the same brand search and brand lift instruments as any other creative. The content and community side of that work is what our social media management team does day to day; the paid amplification is usually where the awareness actually happens.

What an awareness campaign can prove

Some of what gets promised in an awareness proposal is real and measurable, and the cheapest signals are the strongest.

Reach and frequency come out of the platform, at any budget, and they prove delivery. That is all they prove. A reach report is evidence that you bought what you paid for, in the same way a delivery note is evidence about a shipment rather than about sales.

Branded search volume is the strongest free signal there is. In Search Console, filter Queries by "query contains" your brand name, then compare a 28-day window against the previous 28 days and the same 28 days a year earlier. Track impressions rather than clicks: clicks depend on your own result and move when you change a title tag. A brand with no awareness spend holds a flat branded line for months; two months into a real campaign, that line bends. Google Trends only works above a search-volume floor most UAE brands never clear.

Direct and branded organic sessions in GA4 move with awareness, with one caveat: the Direct channel absorbs app-to-browser clicks, untagged email and anything that strips a referrer, so read the trend, not the absolute number. Filter the report to your own hostname first, or you will be reading traffic that is not yours.

Mentions, sentiment and share of voice need a listening tool at AED 5,000 to 20,000 a month, a real line item for a mid-sized brand and overkill below that. Arabic dialect sentiment classification in these tools is still weak, so treat sentiment as a flag that sends a human to the thread, not a board-deck number. Share of voice only means anything against a fixed competitor set and query list; change either one and the series resets.

Below AED 15,000 a month, the measurement stack I recommend is unglamorous: a branded search index in Search Console, a direct-traffic line in GA4, and one question in the sales script asking how the person heard about you, logged in the CRM rather than remembered. That costs nothing and answers the question well enough to decide whether to keep spending.

What awareness will never prove, at any budget

No budget buys a clean dirham-for-dirham return on an awareness campaign. Anyone who promises one is either attributing performance conversions to a brand line or has built a model whose assumptions do the work the data cannot.

The effect is indirect and lagged. A campaign that starts in February shows up in enquiry quality in April and in branded search in March, and the curve keeps rising for a while after the spend stops. Three to six months is the realistic observation window, which is awkward when the budget is approved quarterly.

External factors do not separate out. Dubai seasonality moves demand in most categories more than your campaign does. A competitor launching, a price cut, a school holiday, a soft quarter in the economy, your own performance campaigns running in parallel: all of it sits inside the same before-and-after comparison, and none of it can be isolated without a randomised holdout. That is the entire reason platform brand lift studies cost what they cost.

I will not quote you a percentage uplift in sales from brand advertising in the UAE, because no credible source publishes one for this market that I would defend in a client meeting. The figures that circulate come from global studies in other categories, re-labelled. If someone hands you one, ask for the sample, the market and the year.

Brand lift studies in the UAE: price, and whether the number holds

Pricing in this market splits cleanly: a small local panel survey runs AED 1,000 to 3,000 for 300 to 500 respondents, and a proper platform brand lift study runs AED 10,000 to 25,000, though the eligibility threshold moves, so ask your Meta or Google rep for the current minimum campaign spend before you plan around it.

The number everyone treats as success is a 5 to 10 percentage point rise in aided awareness, measured against a control. The cheap survey cannot detect it, and that rarely makes it into the proposal.

At 300 respondents, the margin of error on a single percentage is about plus or minus 5.7 points at 95 per cent confidence. When you compare two samples of 300, before and after, the error on the gap between them is larger. The difference has to clear roughly 8 points before you can say it is not noise. At 500 per wave it is about 6.2 points at 95 per cent confidence, or 5.2 points if you accept 90 per cent. To call a 5-point lift at 95 per cent confidence you need in the region of 1,500 respondents per cell, which puts you in the AED 10,000-plus bracket whichever way you buy it.

Study Cost (AED) Sample What you can honestly read
Single-wave panel survey 1,000-3,000 300-500 Baseline awareness, and direction only
Two waves of the same survey twice the above 300-500 per wave A gap, if it exceeds 6 to 8 points
Platform brand lift study 10,000-25,000 Thousands, randomised holdout A lift of 5 points and up, with a confidence interval

None of this makes the AED 2,000 survey a waste. It establishes a baseline you need before the campaign, not after, and tells you which of your two positioning lines people remember. It just cannot certify the result the campaign was bought to produce. If the brand lift number has to survive a board meeting, budget AED 10,000 to 25,000 and run it inside the campaign window, not three weeks later.

Reliability here takes two local hits the methodology note rarely mentions. Population churn among expatriate residents means the group surveyed in January is partly different by June, widening the noise on long studies. And if your brand name is also a common word, your branded search line is contaminated from the start, so check what else that query returns before you adopt it as your index.

The minimum budget where any of this means anything

Set the floor at roughly 100,000 people reached at a frequency of three to five, the point where a measurable signal becomes plausible. Depending on channel mix and season that runs AED 5,000 to 15,000 a month, and it needs three months of continuity rather than one burst.

Below that, awareness spending still does something you cannot measure, indistinguishable from doing nothing at the budget review. Brands under AED 5,000 a month should put the money into performance, where every dirham is accountable, and watch branded search as a free by-product. Come back to awareness when the monthly number can carry it.

Across the budget levels we see most often:

Total monthly media budget (AED) What I would do
Under 5,000 All performance. Track branded search as a free signal, no awareness line
5,000-15,000 One platform, one tight audience, frequency capped, three-month run. No paid research
15,000-50,000 Two platforms, six-month run, AED 1,000-3,000 baseline survey for direction
50,000-150,000 Add a platform brand lift study at AED 10,000-25,000 and a listening tool
150,000 and up Outdoor enters the plan, with digital carrying the measurement

Measuring awareness against performance, honestly

How much of the total budget should go to each is a separate question (the short version: most of our clients under AED 50,000 a month run 70 to 80 per cent performance, 60/40 above that, and flip it if they are launching a new category). The comparison that wrecks these conversations is cost per thousand impressions against cost per conversion. Awareness always looks cheap side by side, partly because reach-objective buying delivers the lowest CPM available by design: the algorithm is shopping for cheap impressions, so the cheapness is a property of the objective, not evidence of a better buy. Compare a reach campaign's CPM with a conversion campaign's CPM on the same account and placements, and the gap is usually two to four times.

The defensible way to run both is to separate the budgets in reporting and resist the quarterly habit of judging the awareness line by the performance line's cost per lead, which it will always lose. If the positioning and message underneath the spend are still unsettled, fix that first: media buying amplifies whatever story you already have, and brand strategy and identity work is cheaper than paying CPM to broadcast a line nobody agreed on.

One boundary worth naming: we buy the media, make the creative and set up the measurement. We do not sell survey panels, and when a client needs a 1,500-respondent study I would rather introduce a research firm than mark up a questionnaire. The brands whose social content and creative we produce, Fabiana Filippi among them, get the same answer about what a brand lift number can and cannot carry.

If you want a plan with the reach and frequency forecast attached to a real budget, send us the category and the number and we will send back the arithmetic before any creative conversation.

FAQ

What is the minimum monthly budget for a brand awareness campaign in Dubai?

Around AED 5,000 a month on one platform is the practical floor; AED 5,000 to 15,000 is where the campaign reaches roughly 100,000 people at a frequency of three to five, the threshold where measurement starts to work. Below that, the spend still buys impressions, but the audience either gets too thin a frequency to register or has to be cut so small the reach stops mattering. Three months of continuity matters more than the monthly figure.

How much does a brand lift study cost in the UAE?

A small panel survey of 300 to 500 respondents runs AED 1,000 to 3,000, and a platform brand lift study with a randomised holdout costs AED 10,000 to 25,000. The cheap option gives a baseline and a direction, but cannot reliably detect the 5 to 10 point lift that counts as success: at 300 respondents per wave, the margin of error on the difference is about 8 points. Budget the higher figure if the number has to survive scrutiny.

Can you prove the ROI of an awareness campaign?

Not in dirhams, at any budget. You can prove delivery through reach and frequency, a lift in recognition through a properly sized brand lift study, and branded search and direct traffic rising in Search Console and GA4. You cannot separate your campaign's contribution from seasonality, a competitor's moves, the economy and your own performance spend running in parallel. Anyone presenting a precise awareness ROAS has built a model, not a measurement.

Should a UAE brand run awareness and performance campaigns at the same time?

Yes, with separate budgets and separate success metrics. Under about AED 50,000 a month in total media, 70 to 80 per cent into performance and the remainder into awareness works for most brands. What goes wrong is rarely the decision to run both. It is the quarterly habit of judging the awareness budget by the performance budget's cost per lead, which it will always lose, and then cutting it in the quarter before the branded search line would have started moving.
