Branding and marketing agency in Dubai: the cost of one versus two

By Artur Gall·Nov 01, 2026·13 min read

Bundling branding and marketing into one agency saves most Dubai companies around 15 to 25 percent against two separate suppliers on a 12 to 24 month commitment. That is the figure agencies here put in writing when they discount a combined scope, and it is the least interesting part of the decision. What decides the outcome is the handover: who owns the gap between a finished brand guideline and a live ad account, and who pays when the two disagree.

I'm Artur Gall, CEO of SkyLight Marketing in Dubai. We sell the bundled route, so the section below on where two specialists come out cheaper costs us work. It stays in, because the answer is not always one agency.

What the two routes cost in Dubai

Published UAE price lists and 2026 agency-pricing reviews land in fairly stable bands. Read them as reported market bands rather than quotes: each one moves with scope, the seniority of the people actually assigned, and how much work happens in Dubai versus offshore.

Line item Reported band What sits behind it
Branding project: positioning, identity, guidelines AED 15,000 to 50,000, one-off Several Dubai studios advertise entry packages from AED 18,000 on roughly a 21-day timeline
Premium identity programme up to AED 150,000 Naming, brand architecture, tone of voice, extended asset library, Arabic lockups
Managed marketing retainer, UAE AED 5,000 to 20,000 per month Strategy, media management, content and reporting, at very different depths across the band
Full-service retainer, international reviews USD 5,000 to 25,000 per month Roughly AED 18,000 to 92,000
Single-discipline specialist, international reviews USD 2,500 to 10,000 per month Roughly AED 9,000 to 37,000

Put the local and international retainer rows side by side and something useful appears: the AED band for "full service" starts well below where international reviews put the same label. At AED 6,000 a month in Dubai you get one generalist account manager, a junior designer and buying activity on two platforms. Real service, fair price, different product. Quoted fees here normally exclude 5 percent VAT, so add it before comparing anything.

Year one through both routes at middle-of-band numbers. Split across two suppliers, a branding project at AED 30,000 plus a retainer at AED 12,000 a month comes to AED 174,000 over twelve months. One agency at a 20 percent bundle discount on the combined scope: roughly AED 139,000. Headline saving about AED 35,000. Hold that number. It gets eaten twice before the year is out.

What a standalone branding project involves at these prices sits in our guide to what a branding project in Dubai costs and how it runs.

Where the one-agency price advantage actually comes from

The discount is not generosity. Account management collapses from two to one: two weekly calls, two reporting formats and two project managers billing into your fee become one. Discovery and asset production each get bought once instead of twice, since a brand agency and a media agency both start with the same competitor read and category audit, and photography gets briefed against the new identity rather than the old one and then again. The last piece is less flattering: a 24-month commitment carries a switching cost, and the agency is pricing that certainty in.

What the discount buys is one commercial relationship, with no guarantee of quality in either discipline. Check it against identity work the agency shipped, then the campaigns built on it. Ask for both halves on the same client. Our own case pages are laid out that way on purpose.

I am not going to attach a revenue uplift percentage to a rebrand on this page. Our named client work sits in fashion, beauty, jewellery and retail, and a before-and-after figure for a rebrand is the easiest number in this industry to invent and the hardest to defend in a client meeting. Ask whoever is pitching you to show the arithmetic instead of a wall of logos.

What a branding agency hands over, and what a marketing agency needs

A branding project in Dubai typically ends with a positioning statement, an audience definition, a logo system, a palette, a typeface pairing with licensing notes, image direction, tone of voice and a guidelines document. Good work, often beautiful, and routinely missing the half-dozen items the people running your ads need in week one.

What gets requested three days after handover, in my experience from both sides of this fence:

  • The logo lockup cropped and safe-margined for 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16, because nothing on Instagram or TikTok is a landscape rectangle.
  • An Arabic logotype and an Arabic typeface pairing. Skip it and every Arabic ad gets built with a fallback font that makes the brand look like another company.
  • A web font licence and an app licence, beyond the desktop licence the designer used. Foundries price these separately and the bill lands months later.
  • Contrast values that still pass on a phone at arm's length in daylight, which is how most of Dubai reads your ads.
  • Headline behaviour inside a 30 or 40 character ad field, and what the brand does when a price sits next to the logo.
  • A motion version: how the logo enters, how long it holds, what happens on a six-second bumper.

A guidelines PDF is rarely scoped to answer any of that. One agency handles it internally. Two suppliers turn it into a change request, a quote and a two-week wait.

The seam: what the handover costs when nobody owns it

Two suppliers create a third workstream that appears in no contract: your own people, mediating. Price it with your own payroll figure. A marketing lead who spends four hours a week chasing files, re-explaining the brief and sitting in two calls instead of one burns about 17 hours a month. At a fully loaded AED 130 an hour, that is roughly AED 2,200 a month, or AED 26,000 a year, against a bundle discount of AED 35,000. The coordination tax sits in the same order of magnitude as the saving.

Rework is the second line. Media starts before guidelines are signed because somebody needed leads this quarter, the first creative round and the landing page get built on provisional colours and copy, the identity lands six weeks later with a sharper proposition, and both get rebuilt. One rebuilt round and one rebuilt landing page normally finish off whatever the discount was worth.

The third line costs the most and shows up on no invoice: accountability splits. The brand agency is judged on a guidelines document and has usually invoiced in full and left. The media agency is judged on cost per lead. Nobody is judged on whether the brand made the advertising work. When results disappoint, the media side calls the positioning too abstract to sell, the brand side says the execution cheapened it, both are partly right, and you are the only person in the room with money at stake.

What closes that gap is one named person holding the brand and sitting in the monthly performance review. A single agency is only one way to arrange it: if your brand agency will keep that person on a small retainer after the project closes, two suppliers work fine. Most will not, because projects ending on time is how project work stays profitable.

Where two specialists come out cheaper

There are situations where I would tell you to hire narrow, even though saying so costs us the bigger contract. You buy each discipline at its own rate instead of a blended one, which matters when you only need depth in one of them, and the branding project stays a one-off cost rather than folding into a 24-month retainer, so you can stop the marketing side in month four without losing the brand work you paid for.

Your total monthly budget, media included, is under about AED 8,000: no multi-discipline team exists at that fee, so full service becomes one person doing six jobs adequately, and one good specialist on the channel that matters beats it. We cover the fuller comparison against hiring internally in agency versus in-house cost and ROI in Dubai.

The task itself may also be narrow and already defined. "Our Google Ads account is leaking money on broad match" is a specialist brief, not a positioning workshop.

You have a capable marketer in-house. The coordination tax drops sharply once that person knows both disciplines well enough to write the brief instead of forwarding the email. Two strong specialists under a strong internal lead can beat either bundled option.

Your brand already works and you need distribution. A ten-year-old Dubai business with recognition in its category and repeat customers needs media, not a rebrand. Agencies selling both will find a brand problem, because that is the larger invoice. Ask them to prove the brand is the constraint first.

Category depth sometimes exists only inside specialists. A jewellery brand that needs imagery converting on a Noon listing, or a clinic working under UAE advertising rules, may find the deepest knowledge sits with a boutique that does nothing else.

What full service means at each price band in Dubai

Fee bands here translate into fairly predictable team shapes: patterns I see in the market rather than published figures, driven by local salary levels.

Monthly retainer What the team realistically looks like Channels it can hold
AED 5,000 to 8,000 One account manager doing strategy, copy and reporting, with design bought in One platform, maybe two, plus basic reporting
AED 8,000 to 15,000 Account manager plus a designer, with a media buyer shared across clients Two or three platforms, a content calendar, monthly reporting
AED 15,000 to 25,000 Named strategist, dedicated buyer, in-house design, analytics support Paid search and social, SEO or content, landing pages, proper attribution
AED 25,000 and up Senior strategist with a brand custodian role, specialists per channel Full funnel with brand work running alongside performance

The last row is the one that matters here: a combined branding and marketing mandate only genuinely exists above a certain fee, because below it nobody can staff a brand custodian who also sits in the media review. At AED 7,000 a month you are being sold a capable generalist at generalist depth.

Brand time and campaign time run on different clocks

Brand strategy and identity design takes six to twelve weeks for most Dubai projects. A new brand's paid media then needs four to six weeks of calibration before the numbers mean anything, with a readable result around week eight to twelve. The two assets also age at different speeds: a brand platform should hold for years, a campaign result is judged weekly.

Launch both at once and you build a trap. At week three somebody senior reads a high cost per lead, high because the account is still learning and nobody has seen the brand yet, and concludes the rebrand failed. The brand then gets edited to rescue a short-term number, which resets the one asset meant to compound. I have watched a sound positioning get diluted into category wallpaper over two quarters that way, one concession at a time.

The fix is a measurement window agreed before launch and a brand owner with the standing to say no during it.

Questions to answer before you brief a branding and marketing agency in Dubai

The route falls out of a handful of answers, and you can reach all of them in an afternoon.

How much is the monthly budget, media included? Under about AED 8,000 all in, hire narrow. Between AED 8,000 and 20,000 the bundle starts to make sense if the scope is honest about depth. Above that, a combined mandate is usually the better buy.

How fast do you need leads? Pipeline inside six weeks means performance starts now and branding runs behind it. One agency sequences that without renegotiation, while two suppliers will each want to go first.

Is the task defined or fuzzy? "Sales are flat and we are not sure why" belongs with one accountable partner. "Our CPL on Meta doubled in September" is a specialist brief.

What happened with your last agency? Reporting that went quiet, work drifting off-brief, no named person on the account: all symptoms of thin staffing, and they repeat at the same fee level whatever the supplier count. Going from one agency to two does not fix a scope that was never funded properly.

Who signs off internally, and how fast? Two suppliers plus a slow approval chain is the most expensive combination of the lot, because every review round costs twice the calendar time.

How agencies in this market position themselves against these questions reads more clearly side by side, which is how we laid out our shortlist of branding agencies in Dubai.

Contract clauses that stop the brand being rewritten for a quick win

These apply to both routes, and they matter more with two suppliers, because nobody is structurally motivated to defend the brand once the project invoice is paid.

Name a brand custodian with written veto over identity changes, naming the human, not the agency. Add change control: no alteration to logo, palette, typography or core messaging without that person's sign-off. State a measurement window, so creative is judged over an agreed period, not week one. Settle asset ownership before kickoff: working files, source logo formats and font licences registered in your name, because a brand you cannot legally use in an app is not yours. Set a review turnaround with named people on both sides, since the coordination tax lives in waiting time. Close with an exit clause listing what gets handed over and in what format.

Trademark clearance and registration in the UAE is a legal matter for an IP lawyer, not the agency, so check name availability before anyone designs a logotype around it. Photography and video for the new identity is a production job with its own crew and budget: we handle it through SL Media, the production arm in the same group, and if your branding agency is quoting for a shoot, ask who is holding the camera.

Picking a route from where you actually are

Your situation Route I would take Why
New brand launching in the UAE, budget above AED 15,000 a month One agency The handover is the main risk at launch, and one supplier removes it
Established brand, recognised in its category, needs more volume Specialist media partner No brand problem to solve, so do not pay for one
Budget under AED 8,000 a month all in One specialist, one channel Multi-discipline teams do not exist at this fee
Strong in-house marketing lead who can brief both sides Two specialists Your lead absorbs the coordination tax and you buy depth
Repositioning an existing business while ads keep running One agency, or project plus retained custodian Someone has to hold the brand while performance work continues
Narrow, defined technical fix Specialist, scoped as a project A retainer is the wrong instrument for a defined fix

If the answer lands on a combined mandate, lead the shortlisting with something other than the fee. Ask who on the team holds the brand, whether that person attends the monthly performance review, and to see a client where the identity and the campaigns were both theirs. We keep our own branding and identity work next to the performance side for that reason, and the fastest test is to send us the brief.

FAQ

How much should I budget for branding and marketing in Dubai?

A branding project covering positioning, identity and guidelines runs AED 15,000 to 50,000 one-off, with entry packages from around AED 18,000 on a 21-day timeline and premium programmes reaching AED 150,000. Managed marketing retainers in the UAE run AED 5,000 to 20,000 a month. A realistic first year at mid-band, wanting both, is AED 150,000 to 180,000 before media spend and VAT.

Can one agency genuinely do both branding and marketing well?

Above a certain fee, yes, because the agency can staff a brand custodian who also sits in the monthly performance review. Below roughly AED 25,000 a month that role cannot be funded, and "both" means one generalist at generalist depth. Test it by asking to see one client where the agency delivered the identity and then ran the campaigns built on it.

How long after a rebrand before results show up?

Brand strategy and design takes six to twelve weeks. Paid media on a new brand needs four to six weeks of calibration before the numbers carry signal, with a readable result around week eight to twelve. Agree the measurement window before launch, because the common mistake is judging a half-calibrated account at week three and editing the brand to rescue the number.

Is one agency actually cheaper than two?

On fees, yes, by roughly 15 to 25 percent on a 12 to 24 month commitment. On total cost the gap narrows, because two suppliers add coordination time, often around 17 hours a month, plus rework when creative gets built before guidelines are signed. The discount and the coordination cost usually sit in the same order of magnitude, so the rework decides it.

What should the contract say so the brand does not get rewritten for a quick result?

Name a specific person as brand custodian with written veto over identity changes, add change control covering logo, palette, typography and core messaging, and state a measurement window so creative is judged over an agreed period, not its first week. Register font licences and own the working files in your company's name, set a review turnaround with named people, and list the handover contents in the exit clause.
